The Fold

Alice Christiana Gertrude Meynell was a multifaceted English author, editor, literary critic, and advocate for women's suffrage, primarily celebrated for her poetry. In the late 19th century, amidst various anti-colonial movements against British rule—such as those led by the Indians, Zulus, and during the Boxer Rebellion—many European intellectuals began to scrutinize colonial practices. This period saw the Meynells and their contemporaries advocating for the marginalized.
Notably, Alice Meynell served as vice-president of the Women Writers' Suffrage League, which was established by Cicely Hamilton and operated from 1908 to 1919. (Wikipedia)
